Youth Red Cross

Roland Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences is proud to have a Youth Red Cross wing in the campus where we groom the future citizens of the country to lead from the front and ensure good life and healthy living condition for all. This wing of the campus is headed by Dr Jyoti Prasad Pattnaik, MBBS, PGDMCH, PGDHM and Mr Chitta Ranjan Panda, Lecturer in English.

Youth represent a substantial part of the membership of Red Cross for its humanitarian commitment. Young volunteers can make a significant contribution to meeting the needs of the most vulnerable people within their local communities through Red Cross youth programme. This has been designed to involve young people as much as possible in the movement and its activities not only as workers and also as beneficiaries, but as partners in management. The programme focuses on the following areas:

•     Promote life and health through training and education on safety, primary health care and healthy living

•     Encourage community service through training and education

•     Disseminate the seven fundamental principles of Red Cross and Red Crescent movement through activities that encourage the Red Cross ideals

•     Promote international friendship with activities that cultivate a humanitarian spirit

•     Technical support in the development of youth programmes, fund-raising, identification of material and human resources

The youth unit aims to have young people recognized by Societies leadership as equal partners who address the needs of the most vulnerable.

The YRC is the most important constituent of its mother organisation, Indian Red Cross. It is a student movement organised for students in Colleges and Technical Institutions. YRC in Roland was established in the academic year 2010-11 as per the orders of the Government of Odisha, Dept of Health and Family welfare.

Objectives:

The objectives of the YRC are to impart a sense of discipline and formation of character to the students.

In this Institution, the students are moulded to be not only innovators, explorers, scientists etc., but also to be the best human beings with social consciousness to transform into nation builders. This has been possible, because of the training imparted to them in the extra-curriculum every year of their studies in discipline, character building, personality development etc. along with academic input. The Personality and Character Development Programme of RIPS paves the way towards this direction.

The compulsory participation of in YOUTH RED CROSS (YRC) helps the students to inculcate discipline in them and to understand their responsibilities towards their countrymen, especially the poor and downtrodden. During their stay in Roland, as the students, they taste the fruits of serving the society.

Activities in the Campus and Outside Campus:

Activities like Blood Donation Camp, Road Safety Campaign, Visit to Ashrams & Government Institute for Mentally Retarded, Reading for the Visually Impaired, Tree Plantation, Campus Cleaning, AIDS Awareness Programme & Rally, Participation in the Cancer Rally and Tobacco Control Measures were some of the important items of work carried out by the Students of the Institution.

Our students have even performed street plays and one act plays in different villages adjacent to Berhampur and got much appreciation from the society for their good will and humanitarian efforts.
